For every child preparing for first communion and for every teenager preparing for Confirmation in the Archdiocese of Montevideo, ACN benefactors provided a Bible, the living Word of God and life-giving sap that nourishes.

The children in Uruguay no longer go to parishes to prepare for first communion, therefore the Fundación Sophia assumed the challenge to prepare them. The methodology agreed between Cardinal Sturla, president of the foundation, is that children should have: a Bible, the catechism from the Spanish Bishop Conference and the manual that goes with it. These last two can be sourced by the archdiocese. But for the Bibles they needed our help.

The children now have their own Bible at home. This means that the source is always close by and so is the possibility to catechize the rest of the family. So often we have heard testimonies of parents, even grandparents, through the children receive the light communicated.

The preparation in the schools is accompanied by the parish priests to which the schools belong, so a good connection between families and the priests is created through retreats and the celebration of the sacraments in the parishes. With the Word, the seeds in the hearts of the children are watered.

If you help them, children, young people and adults from all over the world will know the Word of God, learn to pray in their own language, and be able to prepare to receive the sacraments. There will be children who, thanks to you, will learn to read with the first and only book that falls into their hands in their entire life.

By translating, printing and distributing Bibles, religious literature and Catholic magazines and publications, ACN supports the evangelizing mission of the Church in needy countries.
