In 2024 the Melkite Church is celebrating three hundred years of communion with Rome.
The Melkite Greek-Catholic Church expressed its gratitude to pontifical foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) for its “generous support”, during a celebration in Germany to mark 300 years of communion with Rome.
During the celebration, which took place in Wiesbaden, Germany, on Sunday, 20 October, and attended by Patriarch Youssef Absi, ACN was greatly thanked for all the help that we have given to Syria, in the person of executive president Regina Lynch, who was especially invited to attend.
“On behalf of our Patriarch, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your presence and your generous support. This support has given us warmth, joy and renewed courage to continue our mission, our service and our witness to Jesus Christ”, stated Fr Mayas Abboud, head of the Greek Catholic Melkite Church in Germany, after the event.
The Melkite Greek-Catholic Church is currently celebrating a jubilee year, in celebration of 300 years of communion with Rome, which was established in 1724. Melkite communities in the Middle East, and also the many in the diaspora, are taking an active part in these celebrations, such as the community based in Wiesbaden.
